Iran Condemns Australia’s Support for US, Israeli Aggression
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian Foreign Ministry official condemned the Australian government’s support for the Israeli and American acts of aggression against Iran as a clear example of Australia’s double standards.
Director General of the Asia and Oceania Department at the Iranian Foreign Ministry Ali Asghar Mohammadi said on Saturday that the military aggression by the Zionist regime and the US against Iran’s infrastructure, residential areas, and peaceful nuclear facilities, which led to the martyrdom of a number of Iranian military commanders and civilians, including innocent women and children, constitutes a blatant violation of the UN Charter, the fundamental principles of international law, the non-proliferation regime, the UN Security Council Resolution 2231, and other international rules banning any attack on peaceful nuclear facilities.
Referring to Australia’s longstanding claim of being a supporter of peace and the rule of law, the diplomat said when confronted with the blatant aggression by the Zionist regime and the US against Iran, the Australian government faced a test between upholding truth and the rule of law on the one hand, and supporting aggression and the violation of law on the other, and it failed this test, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
Mohammadi also warned against the dangerous and negative consequences of the approach by governments such as Australia in supporting aggressors, which only encourages them to continue such actions and escalates tensions at the regional and international levels.
He added that justice and logic dictate that if these countries lack the moral courage to condemn the clear aggression of the Israeli regime and the US, they should at the very least remain silent.
While the Zionist regime waged a war of aggression against Iran on June 13 and struck Iran’s military, nuclear and residential areas for 12 days, the US stepped in and conducted military attacks on three nuclear sites in Iran’s Natanz, Fordow and Isfahan on June 22.
The Iranian military forces conducted powerful counterattacks immediately after the aggression. The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Aerospace Force carried out 22 waves of retaliatory missile strikes against the Zionist regime as part of Operation True Promise III that inflicted heavy losses on cities across the occupied territories.
Also, in response to the US attacks, Iranian armed forces launched a wave of missiles at al-Udeid air base in Qatar, the largest American military base in West Asia.
A ceasefire that came into force on June 24 brought the fighting to a halt.
