Civilian Casualties Reported in Israeli Attack on Prison in Tehran
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An attack that the Zionist regime carried out against the Evin penitentiary of Tehran on June 23 has killed civilians, the spokesperson for the Iranian Judiciary announced.
Asghar Jahangir said on Tuesday that the brutal Israeli attack on the Evin prison in northern Tehran was conducted during the visiting hours of the jail, as the relatives of prisoners were present in the correctional facility.
The spokesman said a number of Judiciary staffers and ordinary people were martyred in the Israeli strike, which also partially destroyed the prison’s administrative offices building.
Jahangir said the Judiciary brought the situation under control immediately after the attack, noting that the prisoners have been in contact with their families.
The Zionist regime waged an unprovoked war of aggression against Iran on June 13. It carried out airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear, military and residential sites that have resulted in the martyrdom of hundreds of Iranians, including top military commanders, nuclear scientists and ordinary citizens.
The Iranian military forces started counterattacks immediately afterwards. The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Aerospace Force carried out 21 waves of retaliatory missile strikes against the Zionist regime as part of Operation True Promise III that inflicted heavy losses on cities across the occupied territories.
A ceasefire that reportedly came into force on Tuesday morning has put a halt to 12 days of ruthless Israeli assaults and decisive retaliatory strikes by Iran.
