FM Lauds Russia for Condemnation of Attacks on Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi praised Russia for condemning the Israeli and American military strikes on Iran, saying Russia has stood on the right side of international law.

In a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin on Monday, Araqchi said “strategic aspects” of the close and age-old relations between Tehran and Moscow have been shaped in recent years.

Highlighting the critical conditions in the region following the Israeli and US military aggression against Iran, Araqchi said Iran has always held close consultations with its friends in Russia.

“Russia has been a partner and companion of Iran over Iran’s nuclear issue. It has also been present in the nuclear negotiations,” the foreign minister said.

He also appreciated Russia for condemning the military strikes on Iran, adding, “Russia has stood on the right side of international law.”

“Tensions are now rising due to the unreasonable aggression by the Israeli regime and the US (against Iran). The acts of aggression are in violation of the United Nations Charter and the international law, as the Islamic Republic of Iran is legitimately defending itself against the aggression,” Araqchi stated.

For his part, the Russian president denounced the attacks against Iran as an unreasonable and unjustifiable act of aggression.

He said Russia is trying to help the Iranian people.

Putin noted that the Iranian foreign minister’s visit to Moscow has provided an opportunity to discuss the ways out of the current crisis in the Middle East.

While the Zionist regime waged a war of aggression against Iran on June 13 and has been striking Iran’s military and nuclear sites, the US stepped in and conducted military attacks on three nuclear sites in Iran’s Natanz, Fordow and Isfahan early Sunday.

The Iranian officials said Tehran reserves the right to resort to its own options for reaction to the US attacks.
