Araqchi to Meet el-Sisi in Cairo

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is going to hold talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi during a forthcoming visit to Cairo, the head of office for the protection of the interests of Iran in Egypt said.

In an interview with Tasnim, Mohammad Hossein Soltanifard said Foreign Minister Araqchi will be visiting Cairo at the invitation of his Egyptian counterpart.

The top Iranian diplomat is scheduled to hold meetings with Egyptian President el-Sisi, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, and Egyptian political and economic elites during the visit to Cairo on Monday, the envoy said.

Soltanifard noted that the ministerial visit to Egypt will focus on bilateral relations, consultations on the latest regional developments, including the crisis in Palestine, and talks on international issues.

Pointing to the constant consultations between the Iranian and Egyptian foreign ministers, Soltanifard said, “The prospect we are facing is a good one. We hope the two countries would take the final steps in elevating relations in the very near future.”

Asked about the cooperation between Iran and Egypt in support of Palestine, the envoy said, “The issue of Palestine and Gaza is a priority for the region. Egypt shares long borders with the occupied Palestine and has been involved in consultations about the process of ceasefire in Gaza. Iran supports Egypt’s stances on the rejection of relocation of people from Gaza and on the establishment of a ceasefire. Egypt has an influential role.”

He also highlighted the collective efforts by Islamic and regional states, including Iran and Egypt, to ensure a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and protect the legitimate rights of the Palestinian nation.
