Iran, Oman Reaffirm Resolve to Broaden Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – In a communiqué at the conclusion of the Iranian president’s state visit to Oman, the two countries underlined their determination to enhance relations in various fields.

At the conclusion of President Masoud Pezeshkian's official visit to Muscat, the two nations highlighted their commitment to opening new avenues for economic partnership, supporting the private sector in increasing trade and investments, and maintaining regional and international coordination.

The full text of the joint statement is as follows:

In response to the cordial invitation extended by His Excellency Haitham bin Tariq, Sultan of Oman, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, the esteemed President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, undertook an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman on Tuesday and Wednesday, corresponding to 29-30 Dhu al-Qi'dah 1446 AH, equivalent to May 27-28, 2025 AD.

This visit was conducted within the framework of the longstanding historical relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran. It aimed to strengthen the solid bilateral ties and to emphasize mutual respect between the leaders and peoples of both nations, grounded in principles of brotherhood, faith, and good neighborliness.

During official discussions in Muscat, His Excellency Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and President Pezeshkian explored prospects for joint cooperation and the development of bilateral relations, particularly regarding economic collaboration and joint investments across various sectors. They also discussed coordination on matters that serve the interests of both friendly nations. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation and underscored the importance of deepening their relationship and opening new avenues for economic partnership. Additionally, they welcomed the agreement reached within the framework of the joint commission to enhance cooperation in various fields, instructing that the commission's meetings be held regularly.

Both leaders highlighted the positive and constructive role of the private sectors in their respective countries, expressing hope that these efforts would lead to increased investment and trade exchanges. They also welcomed the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding aimed at structuring and formalizing cooperation.

Furthermore, the existing collaboration between Oman Post and the National Post Company of the Islamic Republic of Iran was acknowledged, resulting in the issuance of a joint postage stamp commemorating their deep bilateral relations. This initiative highlights both nations' commitment to strengthening cultural diplomacy, fostering mutual understanding, and enhancing ties between their peoples.

Sultan Haitham and President Pezeshkian discussed several regional and international issues of mutual interest, including the crisis in the Gaza Strip. They called for a complete and permanent ceasefire and an end to the oppression and violence inflicted by Israeli occupying forces against the Palestinian people. They urged the international community to provide humanitarian aid to the defenseless residents of Gaza and condemned all plans aimed at displacing and mistreating its inhabitants. Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the ongoing political consultations and coordination on various issues.

President Pezeshkian appreciated Oman’s constructive role in facilitating indirect negotiations concerning nuclear issues between Iran and the United States. In response, His Excellency Sultan Haitham expressed hope that these negotiations would lead to a mutually agreed accord that strengthens regional and international peace, prosperity, and stability.

The leaders of the two countries emphasized the importance of enhancing efforts to maintain security and stability both regionally and globally, stressing the necessity of coordination and consultation between the two sides in various regional and international forums on issues contributing to security and stability.

President Pezeshkian expressed gratitude to His Excellency Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and the government and people of Oman for their warm reception and hospitality. He formally invited His Majesty to visit the Islamic Republic of Iran, which was warmly accepted.

This joint statement was issued in Muscat on the 30th of Dhu al-Qi'dah, 1446 AH, corresponding to May 28, 2025.
