President Urges Push for Big Jump in Iran-Oman Trade
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called for efforts to prepare the ground to raise the volume of annual trade exchanges with Oman to $30 billion.
In a meeting with business people and economic players from Iran and Oman, held in Muscat on Wednesday, Pezeshkian said the relationship between the two neighbors is rooted in shared cultural and religious values.
He also stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in trade, banking, and transit, his official website reported.
The president expressed optimism that with the right platforms in place, economic exchanges between the two nations would reach $20-30 billion annually.
He then called for improvement to the infrastructures supporting land, sea, and air routes to facilitate increased trade and collaboration in the industrial, scientific, and economic sectors.
Pezeshkian also underscored the significance of banking and monetary cooperation in fostering economic interactions.
Iran and Oman have the potential to establish strategic cooperation with Africa, Russia, Central Asia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkey, and Europe, he added.
The president further highlighted the capacity of the private sector and the potential for joint investment to enhance cooperation in science, medicine, culture, security, and the economy.
He asserted that interaction in scientific, economic, and political spheres would ensure security and stability, emphasizing that trade, industry, and science can help eliminate war and violence.
Constructive cooperation could pave the way for peace and stability not only for the Iranian and Omani people, but also for the other nations in the region, he stated.
