Iran Will Never Abandon Enrichment: FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Under no circumstances would Iran relinquish its hard-won right to enrich uranium, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stressed.

In an interview with Ash-Sharq News in Tehran, Foreign Minister Araqchi said the blood of Iranian martyrs has been shed in the process of developing the homegrown enrichment technology.

Iran’s right to enrichment may not be renounced by any means, he underscored.

Enrichment in Iran is a fundamental matter and is regarded as an outstanding scientific achievement in a very complicated field that has been gained by the local scientists, Araqchi told the Saudi channel.

He said that uranium enrichment is extremely valuable for the Iranian people since its technology has not been imported, but invented and developed domestically.

What makes enrichment technology in Iran more precious is that it has been gained under the pressure of sanctions and at the expense of suffering of the Iranian people, the minister stated, noting that several Iranian nuclear scientists involved in the enrichment process have been martyred in assassination attacks.

Commenting on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Araqchi lashed out at the US for withdrawing from the deal and blamed the European parties for their failure to make up for the US’ exit.

The foreign minister also dismissed the threat of resort to the so-called snapback provisions of the 2015 nuclear deal, saying such a totally unlawful threat has no legal or political basis.

Araqchi warned the European troika that any bid to trigger the snapback mechanism would be a wrong move with consequences for Europe.
