Iran Admires Nicaragua for Severing Ties with Israel
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran praised the government of Nicaragua for its “responsible” move to break diplomatic relations with the Israeli regime.
In a statement on Sunday, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei hailed Nicaragua’s decision on the complete severance of ties with the Zionist regime as a sign of Managua’s commitment to the principles of the international law, the UN Charter, and the international treaties on preventing and countering genocide.
His comments came after Nicaragua announced that it will break diplomatic relations with the Israeli regime, adding to the regime’s growing isolation on the global stage amid its war on Gaza.
Nicaraguan Vice President Rosario Murillo announced the move to state media on Friday after Congress passed a resolution calling for action following the one-year anniversary of the Gaza war on October 7.
Highlighting the Nicaraguan government and nation’s perseverance and resistance against the US’ economic sanctions and political pressures, Baqaei praised Nicaragua’s policies in condemnation of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and the Zionist regime’s acts of aggression against Lebanon.
The Iranian spokesman also called on other countries to join the campaign of severance of relations with Israel, urging a mobilization of the international community to stop the Zionist regime’s evil and warmongering acts.
He cited the resolution passed by Nicaragua’s National Assembly on October 11 that has slammed the Israeli regime as “enemy of humanity” that endangers “world peace and security”, admiring the Nicaraguan nation’s solidarity with the people of Palestine and Lebanon and the other regional nations against genocide, occupation, and aggression.
The Iranian spokesman expressed hope that Nicaragua’s responsible and courageous measure to break off ties with the Israeli regime, which followed the same moves by Bolivia and Colombia, would serve as a model for other nations to honor legal and moral commitments against the Zionist regime’s occupation and genocidal crimes.
