Iran, Tajikistan Ink 18 MoUs
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran and Tajikistan signed 18 cooperation documents and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) during Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s official visit to Dushanbe.
The agreements were signed by top officials on Wednesday during an event attended by Raisi and his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon.
The two presidents also inked a joint communiqué about deepening strategic and long-term relations between the two countries.
In comments at a joint press conference, the Iranian president highlighted the Islamic Republic’s progress under the pressure of sanctions and threats.
He also voiced Iran’s readiness to share its scientific and technological achievements with Tajikistan and provide the Central Asia nation with experiences in various fields, such as energy, agriculture, industry and mining.
Raisi also noted that Iran and Tajikistan have common views about regional issues and both believe that the US invasion of neighboring Afghanistan has brought about nothing but destruction and underdevelopment.
“We believe that a government should be formed in Afghanistan that would represent all ethnicities and religions and Afghan people,” he added.
The Iranian president further voiced Tehran and Dushanbe’s support for the people of Gaza, stressing that Palestine is the Muslim world’s overriding issue.
In remarks at a meeting of high-ranking delegations of the two countries before the press conference, the Tajik president strongly condemned the massacre of people in Gaza, calling for collective efforts to ensure a ceasefire in the besieged enclave.
Rahmon also stated that Tajikistan and Iran share views about various international issues.
He stressed the need to seize the opportunity for the membership of the two nations in major regional and international organizations.
The Iranian president will later travel to Uzbekistan to take part in the 16th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Tashkent.
