Iran-Iraq Joint Water Committee Resumes Activity: Energy Minister
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian minister of energy on Sunday revealed the resumption of activities of the Iran-Iraq Joint Water Committee.
Ali Akbar Mehrabian made the comment in a news conference held on the sidelines of the 3rd Baghdad International Water Conference and said that the reactivation of the Joint Water Committee between Iran and Iraq is among the agreements reached by the two sides.
He said it will start its activities within the framework of the international treaties after a short hiatus.
Evaluating the process of organizing this edition of the International Water Conference in Baghdad as ‘positive’, the Iranian energy minister stated that constructive talks were held by the Iranian and Iraqi officials in the water sector on the sidelines of the conference.
Mehrabian, who is the head of the Regional Center on Urban Water Management (RCUWM), affiliated with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), stressed that promoting the level of cooperation with neighboring countries, especially Iraq, is one of the priorities of the administration of President Ebrahim Raisi.
“We live in a region where it is necessary to increase the level of cooperation and take advantage of experiences of each other due to the climatic condition and reduced rainfalls in order to manage the existing situation optimally,” Mehrabian emphasized.
