Iran, Syria Eye Expanding Trade-Economic Relations: ICCIMA Member
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A member of Iran’s Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) on Saturday said Iran and Syria are keen on expanding trade ties and implementing the agreements inked between the two sides during the recent visit to Damascus by President Ebrahim Raisi.
Given Syria’s need for importing technical and engineering services to renovate and reconstruct its war-torn cities, Iran can take advantage of this capacity to spur exports and export activities,Yayha Al-e Es’hagh said.
Speaking in an interview with IRNA on Saturday afternoon, Al-e Es’hagh said that the recent presidential visit has different aspects in social, economic, and cultural fields, which are of paramount importance.
Regarding the trade-economic ties between Iran and Syria, he said that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries was negligible in previous years but due to Syria’s need to Iran’s export of technical and engineering services to renovate and reconstruct war-torn areas in this Arab country, Iran should take advantage of its high potential in Syria’s lucrative market.
Winning necessary guarantees for investment, developing banking relations, creating appropriate transportation, presenting necessary facilities and credits and revising the customs rules can help boost trade exchanges between the two countries, Al-e Es’hagh emphasized.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the chairman of the Iran-Syria Joint Chamber of Commerce pointed to the Preferential Trade Agreements (PTAa) inked between Syria and Arab countries and stated that Syria should take urgent steps to settle trade barrier including customs and standard.
He added that the implementation of zero tariff rate on Iranian products was emphasized during the recent visit by Raisi to Damascus.
