TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The president of Iran voiced Tehran’s readiness to collaborate with Serbia in the efforts to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
In a meeting with Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic, held in Tehran on Sunday, President Hassan Rouhani said Iran is ready for cooperation and scientific collaboration with Serbia in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.
Stressing the need to strengthen international cooperation between Tehran and Belgrade, the president reaffirmed Iran’s support for the national unity of Serbia and emphasized the necessity of maintaining peace, stability, security and peaceful co-existence in the Balkans.
“The war on terrorism and ensuring peace, stability and security requires collective cooperation and efforts,” the Iranian president added.
He also pointed to the new US administration’s willingness to rejoin the 2015 nuclear deal and the prospect of full termination of the sanctions on Iran, advising the friendly nations to seize the opportunity for cooperation and close economic ties with Iran.
For his part, the top Serbian diplomat highlighted his country’s resolve to hold friendly relations with Iran and called for the expansion of bilateral ties in various fields.
Serbia has always supported the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and Iran’s peaceful purposes in its nuclear program, Selakovic added, hoping for the immediate settlement of problems relating to the nuclear deal.
The foreign minister of Serbia arrived in Iran on Saturday, held a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif, and signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries.
