Protests against US Assassination of Iranian General Held in Pakistan & Kashmir (+Video)
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The assassination of IRGC Quds Force Commander Major General Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad sparked an angry reaction among Muslims in India’s Kashmir and Pakistan where people took to the streets to decry the US move.
Hundreds of protesters also marched in the northern Indian town of Budgam, carrying portraits of General Soleimani and chanting anti-American and anti-Israeli slogans.
A candle light vigil was held with special tributes on martyrdom of General Soleimani and Abu Mahdi Muhandis, the deputy head of Iraq’s Hashd al-Sha’abi (PMU), at the Islamic Centre of England in London. Over 40 demonstrations were also planned across the US Saturday to protest the Trump administration's killing of the top Iranian general and decision to send about 3,000 more soldiers to the Middle East.
According to the USA Today, the protests are being spearheaded by Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER), a US-based anti-war coalition, in conjunction with more than a dozen organizations. Demonstrations were expected to protest outside the White House, in New York City's Times Square and more.
General Soleimani, the deputy head of Iraq’s Hashd al-Sha’abi, and a number of their entourage were killed in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of Friday.
The White House and the Pentagon confirmed the assassination of General Soleimani in Iraq, saying the attack was carried out at the direction of US President Donald Trump.
