General Warns US of ‘Heavy Costs’ of Striking Iran
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior spokesman for the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces warned the US against the mistake of taking military action on Iran, saying any attack will draw Tehran’s crushing response, cost the US dearly, and blow up a powder keg in the region.
In an interview with Tasnim, Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi reiterated that the Islamic Republic will never be the first side to start a war, but the enemy’s slightest mistake will draw a revolutionary response from Iran in West and Central Asia from which the attackers would not survive.
“Threat for threat means that if the enemy fires a single bullet at us, it will receive 10 bullets and have to pay a heavy cost,” he added, warning that any act of aggression against Iran will draw such a “historic response” that would make the assailants regret their move.
The general also noted that the Iranian Armed Forces hold regular war games and drills to maintain military preparedness for “dealing the heaviest blow to the enemy and its interests” in case of any possible attack.
The Iranian Armed Forces are closely monitoring the US moves, General Shekarchi noted, adding, “A military mistake from the enemy, particularly from the US and its regional allies, will be tantamount to firing at a powder keg on which are the US and its interests, and it will set the region ablaze and burn up the US, its interests, and its allies.”
The comments came after the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said on Thursday that a US spy drone that violated the Iranian territorial airspace in the early hours of the day was shot down by the IRGC Aerospace Force’s air defense unit near the Kooh-e-Mobarak region in the southern province of Hormozgan.
The intruding drone was reportedly shot by Iran’s homegrown air defense missile system “Khordad-3rd”.
Iranian military and political officials have repeatedly warned the White House rulers against the dire consequences of a military action against the Islamic Republic.
In comments in April 2018, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said the US is aware of the crushing response it will have to face in case of taking military action against Iran.
The era of hit and run is now over, and the US knows that if it gets entangled in military action against Iran, it will receive much harsher blows, Ayatollah Khamenei underlined.
The US is seeking a way to evade the costs of standing against Iran and place them on regional countries, the Leader said, reminding certain regional countries that if they confront Iran, “they will definitely suffer blows and defeat.”
