Iran’s Central Bank Chief Due in US to Attend IMF, WBG Meeting

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Chief Valiollah Seif will leave Tehran for the US capital of Washington DC on Wednesday night to take part in the spring meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG).

Seif will leave on April 13 at the head of a delegation including two of his deputies.

Each spring, thousands of government officials, journalists, civil society organizations, and participants from the academia and private sectors, gather in the US capital for the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group.

At the heart of the gathering are meetings of the IMF's International Monetary and Financial Committee and the joint World Bank-IMF Development Committee, which discuss progress on the work of the IMF and the World Bank Group.

Also featured are seminars, regional briefings, press conferences, and many other events focused on the global economy, international development, and the world's financial markets.

This year’s Spring Meetings events will take place in Washington DC, April 12-17, 2016. The plenary session of the IMF and World Bank Group's Boards of Governors is scheduled only during the Annual Meetings in autumn.

Because the Spring Meetings bring such a large number of member country officials together, they provide opportunities for consultations large and small, formal and informal.
