German Economy Minister to Visit Iran in May: Report
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – German Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel will travel to Iran in May to seek business opportunities in the Islamic Republic following the official implementation of the nuclear deal finalized by Iran and six world powers in July 2015, known as the JCPOA.
According to a report carried by Reuters on Sunday, Gabriel, who led the first top level German government visit to Tehran in 13 years in July, will head back to Iran in early May to co-chair an economic conference with his counterpart Ali Tayyebnia.
"This gives us the opportunity to open a new chapter in German-Iranian trade ties," the German minister said in a statement on Sunday, referring to the termination of anti-Tehran sanctions following confirmations from the UN’s nuclear watchdog that Tehran had fulfilled its obligations under last year’s nuclear accord.
Shortly after the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) announcement, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and European Union’s Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini announced in a joint statement that the implementation of the nuclear deal has officially been started.
