Iran, Britain Discuss Power Generation, Water

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian and British officials conferred on ways to cooperate in the fields of power generation and water, where British companies can get engaged.

In a Wednesday post in his social network page, Britain’s Chargé d’affaires to Iran Ajay Sharma said that he has had a meeting with Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Alireza Daemi here in Tehran.

The two sides have talked about “Iran’s plans for power generation, water, and waste (management),” Sharma said in the post.

He also noted that he is “keen” for British companies to “get involved” in these fields in Iran.

Iran has recently unveiled plans to diversify electricity generation from the plants that use renewable energy sources, such as wind or solar power.

Iran has said it aims to produce 20,000 megawatts of electricity from nuclear power.

Iran's only nuclear power plant in Bushehr, which produces 1,000 megawatts, became officially operational and was connected to Iran's national grid in September 2011.

The country’s electricity industry ranks 14th in the world and first in the Middle East in terms of electricity generation by having an installed power generation capacity of 67,806 MW.
