Iran’s Power Swap with Neighbors Tops 1500 MW

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran swapped 1,532 megawatts of electricity with neighboring countries on Friday, the Ministry of Energy announced.

Iran exported 1,359 MW of electricity to Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Armenia and Turkey on Friday, while it imported 173 MW from Armenia and Turkmenistan on the same day, showing a positive balance of 1,186 MW.

On Thursday, 1,659 MW of electricity was exported from Iran to Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Armenia and Turkey. Iran imported 537 MW of power from Armenia and Turkmenistan.

Iran is currently swapping electricity with Armenia, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Azerbaijan Republic, Iraq and Afghanistan.

In recent years, the Islamic Republic has put greater emphasis on participation of domestic and foreign investors in its electricity generation sector to boost the industry. Iran seeks to add 40,000 megawatt hour (MWh) more capacity to the national grid.
