TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Director General of National Iranian Gas Export Company Alireza Kameli announced that agreements have been signed with a number of Iranian companies for the conversion of gas to electricity and exporting it to neighboring states.

An initial deal has been signed with four Iranian companies for the conversion of gas to electricity, Kameli told Shana on Sunday.

The Iranian official went on to say that the companies are commissioned to find appropriate places for the construction of plants and research the market for power exports.

"These companies are currently studying the markets of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Turkey, and the UAE," he stated.

Earlier in January, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Iran's Electricity Industry Syndicate Alireza Kolahi announced that power producing companies in Iran are ready to expand their exports to neighboring markets.

"Given the country's current situation and the decline in oil prices, Iranian electricity companies have expressed their preparedness to boost exports of technical and engineering services to the neighboring countries," he said at the time.

He also highlighted the potential of electricity markets in neighboring countries like Iraq, the Azerbaijan Republic and Armenia, and said that the government is expected to support non-oil exports at a time when the oil price is falling in global market.
