Afghan President: Kabul Seeking to Boost Cooperation with Tehran

KABUL (Tasnim) – Afghanistan's President Ashraf Ghani voiced his country’s willingness to further boost relations with neighboring Iran in diverse fields.

“Afghanistan has always sought to strengthen trade relations with Iran and after Iran’s (nuclear) agreement with six world powers, Kabul is willing to further promote cooperation,” Ghani said in a meeting with Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli in Kabul.

“The border between Afghanistan and Iran should be an area for economic and security cooperation,” he noted.

Rahmani Fazli, for his part, hailed Tehran-Kabul relations as “brotherly and Friendly”, and said Iran is committed to the future of friendship with Afghanistan, and believes that a threat to Afghanistan can be considered as a threat to the Islamic Republic.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 6th Regional Economic Cooperation Conference for Afghanistan (RECCA).

RECCA is attended by high-ranking delegations from 30 countries and 40 international bodies, and focuses on the implementation of important economic plans in regional states.

Titled “The Silk Road through Afghanistan”, the two-day event, RECCA, started work in Kabul on Thursday, September 3.

The 1st RECCA was held in Kabul in 2005, and the next editions were held in New Delhi, Islamabad, Istanbul, and Dushanbe.
