Iran's MAPNA Preferred to Siemens, GE in Rumaila Plant Project: Iraqi Firm's Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's MAPNA Group was chosen for construction of Rumaila power plant so that an Islamic country would undertake the project, making it a successful example in the Muslim world, head of an Iraqi firm said.

Iran's MAPNA Group has been commissioned to construct the 3000 MW Rumaila Power Plant in the Iraqi port of Basra. The Group is also asked to provide all the equipment required in the huge project.

Rumaila plant is the first all-Islamic plant, Chairman of the Board in Shamara Holding Company Ali Shamara said in a Monday press conference.

"Production, installation, and operation of equipment (in Rumaila plant) will be carried out by experts of Muslim countries, and the project can be a successful example in the Islamic world," he stressed.

Shamara further referred to the presence of such renowned international companies as Germany's Siemens and the United States' General Electric in Iraq, saying, "Although other companies were also active in Iraq, we insisted that the contract is signed between the two Islamic countries.

"In terms of equipment quality and plant construction, MAPNA Group is on a par with such major companies as Siemens and GE , and its products can compete with those of giant international firms," he added.

MAPNA Group is a group of Iranian companies involved in construction and installation of energy production machinery, including boilers, gas and steam turbines and electrical generators.
