Iranian Diplomat Censures UNSC's Silence on Saudi Crimes in Yemen
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for African and Middle Eastern Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian lashed out at the United Nations Security Council for its silence regarding the massacre of people in Yemen by the Saudi regime.
“Ignoring the efforts of the UN and its special envoy for Yemen (Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed) by the UNSC and the council’s silence on the massacre of Yemeni people by Saudi Arabia is unfortunate for the international community,” Amir Abdollahian told Al-Alam Arabic-language TV network.
He further emphasized that the use of force in Yemen by Riyadh has never helped in resolving the ongoing crisis in the Arabian Peninsula country.
The Iranian diplomat further said Tehran supports political resolutions of the Yemeni crisis and the formation of an inclusive government in the country though dialogue among all groups.
In the latest developments, at least 20 Yemeni civilians have been killed and dozens of others injured in new airstrikes carried out by Saudi Arabia on different areas across Yemen on Wednesday.
On March 26, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies began to launch deadly air strikes against Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
More than 3,000 people, including 1,500 civilians, have been killed over the past three months in Yemen, according to the United Nations. Some local sources put this number at 4,500.
