Iran’s Fact Sheet on Lausanne Statement Ready: AEOI Chief
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chief of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi said the country has prepared its own fact sheet about the Lausanne statement recently released by Iran and six world powers in Switzerland.
"The Atomic Energy Organization (of Iran) and the foreign ministry have prepared Iran's fact sheet," Salehi said on the sidelines of a cabinet session on Wednesday, adding that the foreign minister now has the fact sheet and it will be released at his discretion.
In comments during a closed-door session of the parliament on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underlined that his ministry will soon release a fact sheet on the Lausanne statement.
The fact sheet will come after the US released one with different interpretations over how the framework outlines a final deal.
On April 2, Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached a framework nuclear agreement after more than a week of intensive negotiations in Lausanne, Switzerland, with both sides committed to push for a final, comprehensive accord until the end of June.
The framework provides a series of solutions that will be the basis of a comprehensive joint plan of action.
Following the Lausanne talks, the US Department of State issued a fact sheet that emphasized Iranian concessions and claimed that anti-Iran sanctions will be "suspended" rather than terminated. It also claimed that the lifting of the embargos will come only after confirmation that Tehran has complied with the terms of the agreement.
Iranian diplomats, however, have dismissed such an interpretation of the agreement.
In a televised interview on April 2, Zarif debunked the US fact sheet, stressing that the framework agreement stipulates that all anti-Iran sanctions should be "terminated" under a final deal.
“In fact, the Americans only brought what they desired in the fact sheet,” he noted.
