Blast Wounds 5 Afghan Children, Troops Kill 28 Militants

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Taliban-linked violent incident and conflicts have injured five innocent children and left 28 armed insurgents dead in Afghanistan over the past 24 hours.

In the latest violent event, five children were injured as a bomb exploded in Rustaq district of the northern Takhar province on Wednesday, police said.

"A number of children were playing on a ground in Rustaq district this morning when an explosive device went off, injuring five innocent children," provincial police spokesman Abdul Khalil Asir told Xinhua.

All the injured kids have been taken to hospital for medical treatment, the official added.

He also said the device might have been left from past wars. However, he didn't rule out the role of Taliban in the incident, saying an investigation has been initiated.

Millions of mines and unexploded ordnance have been left from the past more than three decades of wars and conflicts which still claim the lives of people including children in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, security forces in operations against Taliban militants have killed 28 insurgents and injured 47 others over the past 24 hours, Interior Ministry said in a statement released here Wednesday.
