Israel’s Gaza Assault Kills 40 in One Day As Infant Dies of Starvation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Israeli forces have intensified their assault on Gaza, killing dozens in fresh strikes while starvation claimed the life of another infant, underscoring the humanitarian collapse driven by Israel’s siege.

At least 40 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks since dawn, medical sources said.

The dead included at least 10 displaced civilians in the Nuseirat refugee camp and 15 in Gaza City.

In Khan Younis, two-and-a-half-month-old Eid Mahmoud Abu Jamma died of malnutrition and lack of treatment, Nasser Hospital reported.

Doctors said he was one of dozens of children who have starved to death this year as Israel blocks food and medicine from entering the enclave.

Last week, Gaza’s Health Ministry reported 440 deaths from starvation and malnutrition, including 147 children.

A source at al-Ahli Hospital said a child was among two killed in bombardment on the Sabra neighborhood in southern Gaza City.

Israel’s military said it struck 140 targets in the past day, claiming it killed fighters who launched an antitank missile in Gaza City.

Separate raids were also reported in southern Gaza.

Yet civilians remain the overwhelming victims, with overnight attacks on Nuseirat killing families in their homes.

Muhammad Abu Salmiya, director of Gaza’s al-Shifa Hospital, said his staff continues working despite the assault.

“We are still providing medical services to the people of Gaza City, despite the ongoing invasion, the tanks approaching the hospital, and the continuous shelling,” he said.

He warned that shutting down the besieged hospital, already crippled by fuel shortages, would be “a catastrophe.”

“Hundreds of thousands of displaced people remain here, and if this hospital stops working, thousands will die,” Abu Salmiya said.

The Health Ministry said 77 people were killed and 379 injured in the past 24 hours.

Two more bodies were recovered from rubble of earlier bombings.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s war has killed 66,005 Palestinians and injured 168,162, the ministry said.
