Zare Snatches Iran’s First Gold at 2025 World Wrestling Championships

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Amir Hossein Zare won Iran’s first gold medal at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships on Sunday.

The heavyweight freestyler defeated Giorgi Meshvildishvili of Azerbaijan 5-0 in the final bout of 125kg.

He had defeated Puerto Rico’s Jonovan Smith 11-0 in Round of 16, Georgian Solomon Manashvili 10-0 in quarterfinals, and Bahrain’s Shamil Sharipov 7-0 in semifinals.

Robert Baran of Poland and Sharipov claimed two bronze medals in the weight class.

The 2025 World Wrestling Championships began on September 14 in Zagreb, Croatia and will run until September 21.
