Climate at Russia-US Summit Was Good: Lavrov

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – US President Donald Trump and his team at the summit in Anchorage showed a desire to achieve a result in the Ukrainian settlement process and the atmosphere in the negotiations was good, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

"There was a good atmosphere there (at the summit in Alaska). It is reflected in the statements that the presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump made after the talks. A useful conversation, for sure. It was clear that the leader of the United States and his team sincerely want to achieve a result that will be long-term, sustainable, reliable," Lavrov saidin an interview with the Rossiya-24 TV channel.

"Unlike the Europeans, who at that time were saying on every corner that all that was needed was a ceasefire, and after that they would continue to supply weapons to Ukraine," he added, TASS reported.

On August 15, a meeting between Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump took place at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Alaska.

The encounter lasted about three hours. It began with a one-on-one conversation in the American leader's limousine on the way to the main venue for the negotiations and in a narrow group, "three-on-three".

From the Russian side, the meeting was also attended by presidential aide Yury Ushakov and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and from the American side - Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff.
