Iranian Navy Helicopter Warns Off US Destroyer in Gulf of Oman (+Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian Navy helicopter issued a firm warning to a US destroyer attempting to approach Iranian territorial waters in the Gulf of Oman on Wednesday.

On July 23, an American destroyer identified as the USS Fitzgerald (DDG-62) was seen moving toward waters monitored by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In response, the Navy’s Third Naval Region (Nabovat) launched a rapid reaction from its air unit.

An Iranian military helicopter flew over the US vessel and issued a clear warning to change course.

According to Iranian military sources, the American destroyer threatened to engage the helicopter if it did not retreat.

The Iranian pilot continued the mission and reiterated the demand that the US warship withdraw.

Following a second threat by the American vessel, Iran’s air defense command intervened, declaring that the helicopter was fully supported by defense systems and ordering the US ship to move south.

The Iranian Navy’s persistence, along with air defense support, ultimately compelled the US warship to retreat from the area under Iran’s observation.
