Israel Deepens Syrian Incursions despite Reports of Normalization Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – As speculation intensifies over possible normalization deals between the Israeli regime and Syria’s Jolani administration, Israeli forces have escalated their assaults on Syrian territory, storming civilian homes and targeting unarmed residents.

In recent days, Israeli occupation troops have carried out repeated incursions into southern Syria.

Local Syrian sources reported that on Saturday, a unit of Zionist soldiers supported by two tanks and two armored vehicles raided the village of Ruhiyna in the Quneitra countryside.

The soldiers ransacked homes with brute force, breaking doors and destroying civilians’ property before withdrawing without explanation.

Witnesses said occupation forces opened fire on unarmed Syrians during these raids.

This latest attack follows other Israeli military operations near Saida in the occupied Golan Heights, as well as assaults on Abu Midhra and Kodneh villages.

On Friday, Zionist troops stormed the village of Tranja and launched another raid with a tank and multiple military vehicles on civilian homes in Samadaniyah, eastern Syria.

Syrian sources emphasized that the Zionists deliberately targeted non-combatant civilians, in blatant violation of Syrian sovereignty.

Meanwhile, the Jolani administration has remained conspicuously silent about these repeated aggressions, fueling questions over Syria’s internal security posture.

The expansion of Zionist incursions coincides with increasing reports of potential Syrian participation in normalization agreements with Israel.

While Jolani officials claim contacts are indirect and limited to security arrangements such as reviving the 1974 disengagement accord, leaked Hebrew-language sources reveal plans for a formal settlement by year-end.

On Friday evening, Israel’s Channel 24 cited a Syrian source claiming that Israel and Syria would sign a peace agreement before the end of 2025, transforming the Golan Heights into a so-called “Peace Garden.”

Under this arrangement, Israel would gradually withdraw from Syrian territories seized after December 8, 2024, including Golan Heights, paving the way for a broader settlement.

Israeli foreign minister Gideon Sa’ar confirmed on Saturday that any normalization deal required Damascus to recognize Israel’s occupation of the Golan as a precondition for an accord with Ahmad al-Sharaa.

Talk of formal compromise follows years of Israeli violations, including the near-daily bombing of Syrian territory and the destruction of the country’s remaining military infrastructure in late 2024.
