Iran, Qatar Reaffirm Bonds after Attack on US Airbase near Doha
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Ranking diplomats from Iran and Qatar underlined the two countries’ determination to maintain friendly relations after a retaliatory missile strike by Iran against an American airbase near Doha on Monday evening raised concerns about the complication of situation in the region.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht Ravanchi and Assistant Foreign Minister of Qatar for Regional Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi held a telephone conversation on Tuesday morning.
The phone call came after the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps targeted the United States’ Al-Udeid airbase in Qatar with a powerful missile attack on Monday evening in retaliation for Washington’s recent strike on three Iranian nuclear sites.
The Iranian diplomat highlighted the “friendly and robust” relations between Tehran and Doha, reaffirming Iran’s determination to maintain and strengthen the ties with Qatar on the basis of good neighborliness and respect for the mutual interests.
Takht Ravanchi emphasized that through “cooperation and understanding with the regional states”, Iran won’t permit the Israeli and American evil actions against the Islamic Republic and the other countries to cause division among the regional nations.
He also praised Qatar’s constructive role in preventing an escalation of tensions in the region.
For his part, Al-Khulaifi pointed to Qatar’s perfect relations with Iran and stressed the need for joint efforts by all regional countries to safeguard security and stability.
He also expressed Qatar’s determination to play a constructive role in contribution to those efforts.
