IAEA Report on Iran Swayed by Europeans: Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The latest report by the IAEA director general about Iran has been prepared under the influence of a number of European states, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry said, bemoaning the fact that the West can damage the status of an international organization.

Asked about the IAEA’s most recent report about Iran, Esmaeil Baqaei reminded the Western countries that their attempts to exploit multilateral mechanisms to achieve their political purposes have become an “inauspicious precedent”.

Such Western schemes will definitely get nowhere, the Iranian spokesman said at a press conference on Monday.

He noted that the IAEA’s report, whose contents are hackneyed and exaggerated, has been prepared under the influence of a number of European countries.

Iran deplores the harm that certain Western countries are causing to the status of an international organization, Baqaei said.

“We are aware that both the (IAEA) director general and the agency (IAEA) have been recurrently under pressures. However, this should not force the IAEA to draft a biased report against a member state under the influence of others,” he added.

The spokesman said Iran is closely monitoring the actions of the Western parties and will duly take the next steps.

“We will adjust our next steps, but do not want our cooperation with the IAEA to be affected,” he stated.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) issued a joint statement on Saturday in reaction to a report that Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi has given to the Board of Governors.

They voiced strong protest against the report that has been issued “with political objectives and through pressures”, saying it has gone beyond the UN nuclear chief’s mandate.
