Iran Stresses Collaboration with Pakistan to Ensure Border Security
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stressed the need for enhanced cooperation with Pakistan, particularly in the fight against border insecurity.
In comments at a joint press conference with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, held in Tehran on Monday, President Pezeshkian highlighted Pakistan's significance as a strategic neighbor of Iran and hailed the two nations' long history of cultural and civilizational coexistence.
The Iranian president referred to ongoing negotiations between the two sides, stating that both parties underscored the necessity of expanding political, economic, cultural, and international collaboration, as well as the implementation of the previous agreements, his official website reported.
Iran and Pakistan share common positions on various regional, international, and Islamic issues, Pezeshkian added.
He also stressed the importance of eliminating insecurity and terrorist presence, asserting that Tehran and Islamabad are committed to enhancing security and combating elements that threaten stability in the border areas.
The president further highlighted the significance of maintaining sustainable security in the region, asserting that Iran advocates for the stability, welfare, and tranquility of the Pakistani people.
Pezeshkian stated that Tehran seeks amicable relations with all neighboring states, emphasizing that the West Asian and South Asian regions require peace and security more than ever.
He further pointed to the discussions regarding the issue of Palestine, stating that both countries stand in defense of the Palestinian cause and condemn the crimes committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza, as well as the supports from the Western states for these actions. Pezeshkian called for the Islamic world to coordinate efforts for serious action against the Israeli atrocities.
At the conclusion of the press conference, President Pezeshkian expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Sharif for his visit to Tehran, hoping that the agreements and objectives of the trip would be pursued and implemented seriously.
