Iran Condemns Latest US Sanctions on Construction Sector as ‘Crime Against Humanity’

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the United States on Friday morning over the expansion of sanctions targeting the country's construction industry, calling the move illegal, inhumane, and another sign of Washington’s hostility towards the Iranian people.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei said the US decision to extend its sanctions regime to include Iran’s construction sector marks a new level of hostility and injustice.

"Marco Rubio's State Department hit a new low in American long history of unlawful coercive & hostile measures against the Iranian nation by further expanding their unlawful sanctions to construction sector and home building," Baqaei stated in a post on X.

“That's as outrageous as it is unlawful and inhuman,” he reiterated.

"The United States multi-layered sanctions & coercive measures against Iran have all been calibrated to deprive each and every Iranian citizen of their basic human rights, and as such these sanctions are no less than crimes against humanity," he added.

Baqaei further wrote that the continuation of such sanctions reinforces a deep-seated belief among Iranians that American policymakers are relentless in their “malign” efforts to hinder Iran’s development and progress.

"These sanctions, announced on the eve of the fifth round of Iran-U.S. indirect talks, further put to question the American willingness & seriousness for diplomacy," he said.

"Our nation is resolved to remain steadfast & strong in the face of such absurd animosity," he concluded.

The US State Department announced on Wednesday that it had created the conditions necessary to impose sanctions on individuals or entities associated with Iran’s construction sector.

According to the statement, the sector is deemed to be under the direct or indirect control of Iran’s IRGC. The declaration signals that any person or company knowingly supplying construction-related materials to Iran may now face US sanctions.
