TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Iran hailed the Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) for performing an important function in the expansion of relations among regional countries.
Abbas Araqchi and CICA Secretary General Kairat Sarybay held a meeting in Tehran on Monday.
They discussed issues of mutual interest and highlighted Iran’s effective role in the framework of CICA in promoting regional cooperation mechanisms, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
Araqchi referred to the important role of the neighboring countries, particularly the Republic of Kazakhstan, in strengthening peace and stability in the region, saying CICA plays a significant role in enhancing regional relations.
He also noted that the regional countries, by relying on shared interests, can design and pursue effective frameworks for cooperation.
The CICA chief, for his part, provided an overview of CICA’s programs and underscored the need to expand cooperation with member states, particularly with Iran, as an active member, in order to achieve common goals in confidence-building and addressing the regional challenges.
