Iran Praised for Efforts at Pakistan-India Truce
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The prime minister of Pakistan gave Iran credit for its good offices and efforts to establish a ceasefire between Islamabad and New Delhi.
In a telephone conversation with the Iranian president on Saturday, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked Tehran for its benevolent, compassionate, and brotherly initiatives aimed at resolving misunderstandings and facilitating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
Sharif also described the Iranian foreign minister’s recent visit to Islamabad as a constructive move to propose Iran’s initiative for a ceasefire and reduce tensions between Pakistan and India.
He pointed to the historical context of relations between Pakistan and India, noting that over the past decades, the two countries have engaged in three wars, none of which resolved the underlying issues.
Therefore, Sharif said, Islamabad believes that crises such as Kashmir, terrorism, and other pressing matters can only be addressed through political solutions and dialogue.
The prime minister also welcomed the de-escalation of tensions, the establishment of a ceasefire, and the prospect of sustainable peace between India and Pakistan. He expressed hope for a visit to Tehran in the near future to discuss matters of mutual interest and regional developments.
For his part, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed satisfaction with the ceasefire between Pakistan and India, emphasizing that Iran believes war and violence cannot resolve issues, his official website reported.
Pezeshkian stated that sustainable solutions to differences lie in dialogue and cooperation.
The president highlighted Iran’s principled policy in support of peace, stability, and security in the region, reaffirming Tehran’s readiness to collaborate in strengthening interaction and enhancing ties between Pakistan and India, as well as between Iran and Pakistan.
Pezeshkian also stated that terrorism remains a significant challenge for the region, asserting that combating the common threat requires synergy, coordination, and brotherly relations among the regional nations.
In conclusion, the Iranian president welcomed the Pakistani prime minister’s plan to visit Tehran, expressing hope that the trip would deepen bilateral ties and enhance cooperation in the areas of mutual interest.
