Pezeshkian Pledges Push for Justice in Parliamentary Speech
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian president-elect expressed his forthcoming administration’s commitment to the promotion of justice, fairness and equality in the society under the law.
Masoud Pezeshkian attended a Sunday session of the Parliament in his capacity as a lawmaker.
Praising the Iranian voters for not falling under the influence of hostile propaganda, Pezeshkian emphasized that it is not possible to run the country in the shadow of rifts and disagreements.
Stressing the need to combat injustice, the president-elect said his administration will need to create a society in which justice and fairness prevail.
“We ought to join hands to address the people’s problems through coordination, cooperation and consultation and overcome the crises,” he stated.
Pezeshkian was elected to the Parliament as a representative of the northwestern city of Tabriz in the parliamentary elections on March 1.
After the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash on May 19, Pezeshkian became one of six final candidates singled out by the Constitutional Council from 80 applicants seeking the presidency.
He won the highest number of votes in the first round of the presidential election on June 28 and faced off the runner-up, Saeed Jalili, in the runoff election on July 5.
The physician-turned-politician won the runoff by garnering 53.66% of the votes.
The ceremony of endorsement of Pezeshkian by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei is schedule to be held in Tehran on July 28.
A subsequent swearing-in ceremony for the president-elect will be held at the Parliament on Tuesday, July 30.
The parliamentary law stipulates that the new president should present his plans and introduce his ministers within two weeks after inauguration.
The lawmakers will then discuss the credentials of the proposed ministers for a week before holding a final session on the votes of confidence.
