Iran’s Karate Athlete Ganjzadeh Claims Gold: 2022 Hangzhou
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian karate athlete Sajad Ganjzadeh won a gold medal in the 2022 Asian Games on Friday.
Ganjzadeh defeated Vatthana Xayasan from Laos 8-3 in Round of 16 of the men's Kumite +84Kg, and then emerged victorious over Pakistan’s Muhammad Awais 9-1 in quarterfinal. He also beat Thailand’s Teerawat Kangtong 3-2 in semifinal.
Ganjzadeh defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Adilet Shadykanov 4-2 in the final match.
A record high of nearly 12,500 athletes from 45 countries and territories compete across 40 sports in the 2022 Asian Games.
Iran has sent 289 male and female athletes to the Games in 34 sports events.
