Iran Determined to Ditch US Dollar in Bilateral Transactions with Russia: VP
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran is seriously determined to sideline the US dollar in mutual transactions with the Russian Federation, First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber said.
He made the remarks in Tehran on Wednesday in his meeting with the governor of the Central Bank of Russia on the sidelines of the 51st Asian Clearing Union (ACU) meeting, adding that Iran has prioritized removing dollar transactions first with Russia.
The two sides have held expert-level talks in this respect, Mokhber stated.
Earlier this morning, on the sidelines of a Cabinet meeting, Mokhber pointed to the removal of the US dollar from transactions between Iran and other countries, saying, “Giant work is happening in the field of sidelining the US dollar in transactions among countries.”
"De-dollarization" and reducing the dependency of countries on major currencies including the US dollar are among the main topics discussed at the 51st edition of the ACU meeting.
