Iran, Iraq Transport Ministers Discuss Shalamcheh-Basra Railway Project over Phone
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash and his Iraqi counterpart discussed the progress of construction operation of the Shalamcheh-Basra Railway project and the upcoming ministerial meeting of the neighboring countries in Baghdad.
In a telephone conversation on Tuesday, Bazrpash and his Iraqi counterpart Razak Muhibis Al-Saadawi followed up on the progress of the project, particularly with regard to the initiations for land acquisition.
During the phone talk, Bazrpash pointed to the responsibility of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (RAI) regarding the construction of the Shalamcheh-Basra Railway.
Following a bilateral agreement reached in April for the construction of the Shalamcheh-Basra Railway, Iran and Iraq transport ministers met in Tehran to kick off the implementation of the project.
The two ministers also discussed facilitating the pilgrims' march to Karbala during the Arbaeen season.
A meeting of the transport ministers of the neighboring countries in Baghdad next week was also discussed in the phone conversation.
Baghdad will host transport ministers from the neighboring countries and member states of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) on May 27, 2023.
“The conference represents a significant step in the government's endeavors to strengthen cooperation and foster economic integration with our neighboring nations and regional partners. It aims to establish a solid foundation for peace, stability, and prosperity for all our peoples," an Iraqi government spokesman said.
