Speaking at the 14th edition of the International Conference of Petrochemical Industry in Tehran on Monday, Morteza Shahmirzaei put the current proven petrochemical capacity of the country at 93 million tons.

By launching 108 new small- and large petrochemical projects, the capacity of petrochemical production in the country will double in the next 12 years, the deputy oil minister added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Shahmirzaei pointed to the progress of Iran’s petrochemical industry after the glorious victory of the Islamic Revolution and stated that the petrochemical industry of the country has so far experienced a 60-fold growth as compared to before the Islamic Revolution.

Despite the tough sanctions imposed against the country, Iran’s petrochemical industry has gained salient achievements, the most important of which is related to cutting the dependency on importing petrochemicals from foreign countries, he emphasized.
