Iran Transits 8.3 Million Tons of Non-Oil Goods in 2022

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Expounding on the latest situation and performance of transit in the country last year in 1401 (March 21, 2022 to March 20, 2023), an official said Iran managed to transit 10.8 million tons of oil and non-oil goods, registering a new record.

Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Shahriar Afandizadeh made the remarks on Monday and called the approaches, priorities, effective measures and achievements of the ministry in this sector ‘promising and satisfactory’ in line with developing transit.

Given the transit of 7.5 million tons of non-oil goods a year earlier, “We witnessed 10.7 percent growth in transit of this type of goods last year as compared to the same period in the previous year,” Afandizadeh stated.

He added, “Considering the least current capacity of the country for transiting 10 million tons of goods in combined form in the North-South Corridor, an agreement has been made with the Russian side to take maximum advantage of this capacity in 2023, the implementation of which is underway.”

The official accession of Iran to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was one of the salient and important events that happened last year in order to enhance the transit volume of the country with the neighboring states, the deputy roads minister emphasized.

The Ministry of Roads and Urban Development has taken effective steps in the current year in 1402 (started March 21, 2023) in line with developing transport relations with regional and extra-regional countries.
