Iran, West Africa to Launch Maritime Line
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Head of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI) said a regular maritime line will be launched between Iran and West Africa in the near future with the cooperation of the private sector.
Alireza Paymanpak made the remarks on the sideline of the International Economic Cooperation Conference between Iran and West African States in Tehran on Monday.
He said one of the programs of the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade is to develop the trade activities between Iran and African states.
Last year, Iran’s export of products to the African Continent grew by 100% and this year the figure increased by 10%-15%, he added.
Referring to the great potential of West Africa in economy and mineral resources, the Iranian deputy minister said the main issue is transportation via ship which will soon be launched with the cooperation of the private sector.
Regarding the flight routes, Peymanpak said that negotiations took place and permits were obtained so that one or two airliners will launch direct flights.
"Based on previous plans, we will have an agreement and a contract worth $2 billion in this meeting, which has been negotiated and agreed upon for several months. We will also send delegations to the African Union," Peymanpak added.
