TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A new vaccine developed by the Barakat Foundation of Iran has proved highly effective against the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

A report given to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi at a Saturday meeting of the Coronavirus Fight National Headquarters presented promising findings about tackling the Omicron surge in the country.

It was announced that Iranian researchers at the Barakat Foundation have managed to produce a new coronavirus vaccine with a high level of effectiveness against the Omicron strain.

Elsewhere in the meeting, Raisi hailed the downward trend in the number of new COVID cases and daily fatalities amid the sixth wave of the pandemic in Iran, calling for continued and serious compliance with the health protocols.

The Iranian Health Ministry said on Saturday that over 62.69 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, over 55.39 million have received the second dosage, and more than 22.92 million have gotten the booster shots.
