Kenya Gateway for Iranian Exports to Africa: Rouhani

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The outgoing president of Iran praised the country’s cordial relations with Kenya, which he described as a gateway for the export of Iranian commodities to Africa.

In a Tuesday meeting with Kenya’s new ambassador to Tehran, President Hassan Rouhani said Iran and Kenya have always maintained good and amicable relations.

Describing Kenya as the gateway to the export of Iranian goods to the continent of Africa, the president stressed the need for the enhancement of political, economic and scientific cooperation between the two nations.

There are suitable grounds and capacities for the promotion of ties between Tehran and Nairobi, Rouhani said after receiving the new envoy’s credentials.

Joshua Igweta Gatimu, for his part, highlighted the age-old and developing relations between Kenya and Iran, saying his main goal during the mission to Iran is to broaden the bilateral ties.

In January, Iranian Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari inaugurated an innovation and technology center in Kenya, offering to share the experience of Iran’s domestic knowledge-based companies with their Kenyan peers.

The vice president had visited Kenya with a 40-strong delegation of representatives of local knowledge-based and innovative companies to pave the way for the export of homegrown knowledge-based products.
