Quds Day Symbol of Iran’s Sense of Responsibility for Islamic Issues: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary of Iran’s Expediency Council (EC) Mohsen Rezaei underlined the importance of rallies held across the country and the world to mark the International Quds Day and said the day is a sign of the Iranian nation’s sense of responsibility for “human and Islamic issues”.

“The initiator of Quds Day marches is Imam Khomeini (RA),” Rezaei told reporters on the sidelines of a rally to mark the International Quds Day on Friday.

“It (Quds Day) is one of the symbols of the Iranian nation’s sense of responsibility about human and Islamic issues,” he added.

This year is very important because of new plots hatched against the Palestinian people, the official said, referring to the US administration’s so-called “deal of the century” plan.

Rezaei went on to say that Iranians have voiced their opposition to the plan through their massive presence in the streets of Tehran and other cities.

The Iranian people took part in countrywide demonstrations on Friday to commemorate the International Quds Day, reaffirm support for Palestine, and condemn the Israeli crimes against Palestinians.

Quds Day demonstrations in Iran kicked off at 10 am local time in more than 950 cities across the country.

Millions of fasting people from different walks of life have poured into the streets in support of Palestinians, who have been suffering from Israel’s atrocities for decades.

The International Quds Day is an annual event during which demonstrators around the world express their solidarity with the Palestinian people and opposition to the occupation of the Palestinian territories by the Zionist regime of Israel.

The day is also seen as the legacy of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, who officially declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day back in 1979.
