The US and its allies have been bombing what they call Daesh positions inside Syria since September 2014 without any authorization from the Damascus government or a UN mandate.
The aerial assaults, however, have on many occasions resulted in civilian casualties and failed to fulfill their declared aim of countering terrorism.
According to reports by the so-called UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, at least 300 civilians were killed in US-led coalition airstrikes conducted at the end of 2018 in the Deir ez-Zor areas bordering Iraq. Among them were over 130 children.
