Russia Calls on Israel to ‘Stop’ Air Raids on Syria

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin urged Israel to stop carrying out airstrikes on Syrian territory, stressing that such "arbitrary" acts could further destabilize the situation in the Arab country.

"With regard to the latest Israeli attacks, we said that such arbitrary attacks on sovereign Syrian territory should be stopped and excluded,” Vershinin said in an interview with Russian media on Friday, Sputnik News reported.

He added, “Any strikes destabilize the situation even more. No one should conduct actions in Syria that go beyond the scope of antiterrorist objectives”.

Israel frequently strikes the Syrian territory, attacking military targets belonging to Syria and its allies, which have been assisting Damascus’ war on foreign-backed terrorist groups.

Recently, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani censured as “unacceptable” the Israeli regime’s continued acts of aggression against Syrian soil and violations of its territorial integrity.

“If these actions continue, some calculated strategies will be activated for deterrence and as a firm and appropriate response in a way to teach a lesson to the criminal and lying rulers of Israel,” he said.
