Russian, French Presidents Voice Support for JCPOA

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Russian President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron discussed the JCPOA and the latest developments in Syria on Tuesday, the Kremlin said.

The two presidents confirmed their commitment to the 2015 nuclear deal with between Tehran and world powers in a phone call, the Kremlin press service said in a statement, Reuters reported.

Macron is set to visit Russia to attend an economic forum next week.

The phone conversation came after US President Donald Trump, in a speech from the White House last week, accused Iran of sponsoring terrorism and seeking nukes before announcing the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal.

Following the controversial decision, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Iran weighs plans to remain in the agreement with the other five parties, namely Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany, provided that the remaining JCPOA parties ensure its full benefits for Iran.
