President’s Chief of Staff Urges Closer Iran-Turkmenistan Banking Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian president’s Chief of Staff, Mahmoud Vaezi, highlighted the importance of the Islamic Republic’s relations with Turkmenistan and called for closer banking cooperation between the two neighbors.

Speaking at a meeting with Turkmen Foreign Minister Rasit Meredow on Saturday, Vaezi hailed the Tehran-Ashgabat relations as “deep and strategic” and said the expansion of the relations between the two countries is one of the priorities of the Iranian administration.

Fortunately, he said, agreements recently reached between the Iranian and Turkmen presidents and other officials in various sectors are being pursued and implemented.

Vaezi further emphasized that expediting Iranian-Turkmen banking cooperation in the new conditions is very important, adding that the development of the economic relations between Tehran and Ashgabat hinges on closer banking cooperation.

Turkmenistan’s top diplomat, for his part, praised the amicable and brotherly ties between the two countries and said the recent trip of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to Turkmenistan opened a new chapter in the history of the bilateral relations.

In recent months, Iran and Turkmenistan have accelerated efforts to forge closer partnership in various political and economic fields.

Back in March, Rouhani paid an official visit to Ashgabat at the invitation of his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.

During the trip, the two sides signed a number of agreements to enhance the bilateral ties in diverse areas.
