Turkey, Saudi Arabia Seeking Destruction of Aleppo: Syrian Ex-Envoy

DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Syria’s former ambassador to Ankara slammed the Turkish and Saudi governments for their plot to raze Aleppo in northwestern Syria, saying the Syrian forces are gearing up for a massive military operation in the strategic city “which will break the back of” enemies.

In an interview with Tasnim, Nidal Qablan said Aleppo has been a main target for the plotters since the beginning of crisis in the Arab country in 2011.

Aleppo is of great significance, that is why a whole host of terrorist groups, mainly al-Nusra Front, have invaded the city, the diplomat said, explaining that terrorists took advantage of a recent ceasefire to mobilize forces and arm themselves with different types of weapons.

He further took a swipe at Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his push to ruin Aleppo’s economy and destroy its infrastructures.

Qablan also unveiled plans for a determining military operation by the Syrian forces in Aleppo, which he said will break the back of the enemies of Syria.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a new report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
